You Are Stronger Than You Think
I promise you now, you are stronger than you think.
“You’re braver than you believe and stronger and smarter than you think.”
Winnie the Pooh was a firm favourite in our household growing up. We knew that Dad loved it so every Birthday, Fathers Day, Christmas, something would be Winnie-the-Pooh themed. It’s not until I’ve grown up, that I’ve realised why Dad loved it so much. There is so much that can be taken from it, simple, yet wonderfully insightful.
One thing I have come to learn is that we are only responsible for ourselves.
We are only responsible for ourselves. What does that mean?
I’m talking about everything in our lives that happens, the way we deal with certain situations, the way we view ourselves, all comes down to the inner dialogue we have within.
Humans are incredibly complex things, many factors come into play and add to certain personality quirks, thought patterns and beliefs, many of which are formed when we are growing up, before we are even old enough to realise the impressions things are having on us and on our psyche in the long term. As children we are like sponges, absorbing and learning through other people’s experience first, through our parents or siblings or play-group friends. Sometimes the smallest thing that is said to you, can have a lasting effect and lead to you building on these things and developing limiting self beliefs:
“Oh I’m not good at that”
“I am not good enough”
“I’m scared to fail!”
Now, who is ANYONE to tell you that? If you are you, then the person who knows you the best, is you. So, why allow people from your past or present to tell you what you are and aren’t good at, what you do and do not like? Who you are, the kind of person you are. This is the wonderful thing, is that, in being YOU, its YOU that gets to decide.
As children we are all born with limitless capabilities, we are a blank slate. This doesn’t change. Society may try and put you into a box, tell you you’re not good at this or that, or your shouldn’t do that because of what people will think.
YOU get to write your own story.
When you see people breaking records, or surpassing human physical limitations and say, “Ooooh, thats not me, I couldn’t do that” who’s to say you couldn’t if you tried.
If something sparks joy within you, makes you happy, brings a smile to your face, it is within your power to make that a part of your everyday reality.
If you don’t enjoy your job, and it makes you miserable, you have the ability to change it.
If you’re not in a relationship that is aiding to your happiness and making you want to be a better person, YOU have the ability to change this.
No one else.
Once you come to the realisation that you are braver than you believe. Stronger, and smarter than you think, you will open up a whole new world of opportunities and endless possibilities. But it all starts within YOU.
What do YOU want?
How do YOU want to live?
How does YOUR story end?
Never forget that you are stronger than you think, and that you have the power to write your own story.
