Things to Do in Rome
ROMA!! There are SO many guides things to do in Rome with all of the usual tourist spots to explore but it can be very overwhelming.
With a city that is filled with stunning architecture and bursting with history, it’s hard to know where to go first.
Now, not usually ones to do the whole ‘touristy thing’, we actually found that getting one of the bus passes on the hop on hop off buses, was really useful in ticking off all of the historical ‘must see’ spots. (Dad would be proud)
Sitting in the open top with a gelato and just seeing the city was pretty wonderful.
Piazza San Pietro was gorgeous, as was the Trevi Fountain.
It’s high season in Rome so the city is heaving, understandably.
The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the Sistine Chapel. There are lots of people selling ‘entry’ to the chapel but you can actually just purchase when you are there. But actual entry to the chapel, you feel a little like cattle being herded.
So maybe that’s one of the things to do in Rome to do when it’s not peak season.
In and out with people shhh-ing you inside so it takes a little of the magic away.
But, it is beautiful none-the-less if you can zone that out.
Once you’ve done all of the ‘bucket list’ things, the best way to do Rome is to have no agenda and just walk around.
Dipping into restaurants for pizza and walking around with gelato, really experiencing the majesty of the city!
A Personal Note:
If there is one thing you MUST do in Rome, it is this.
Book in for dinner at Armando del Pantheon.
It is the best, most satisfying meal I think I have ever had.
So simple.
So authentic.
SO delicious.
It is a teeny tiny hole in the wall, with very limited seating but the best pasta you will possibly ever have.
I had a simple pasta with olive oil and truffle and a glass of the house red and I was the happiest person on earth at that point.
