Nantucket Island: How To Spend A Long Weekend | DNF | Travel

A Long Weekend in Nantucket

Unless you are a resident of New York or Massachusetts, Nantucket Island may not have even entered your vicinity as a place you may want to travel to. However, this blog post is me saying, you really should bump it up your list! Or even, get it on your list!

This tiny little island off the East coast of Massachusetts is utterly charming. When the whaling industry broke down, the island essentially got frozen in time. As soon as you step foot off of the ferry, you feel like you’ve gone back in time in the best possible way. The old new England style architecture is everywhere, not a new build in sight!! Which is SO refreshing!
Don’t let that fool you though, Nantucket is packed with incredible restaurants, adorable boutique hotels and a vibrant nightlife (in the Summer).

How to Spend Your Time in Nantucket Island

An absolute must during the daytime is surfing! If you have never tried it before, it’s the perfect time and place to learn!
We actually stumbled across a few instructors by chance while we were en route to a beach workout class, which worked out even better! What didn’t work out so well were our surfing skills. We thought we would be a little more like Blue Crush, it was not the reality.
Our lesson ended with us getting the instructors to surf with us perched on the front of the board! Equally fun! During the summer months, there are usually surf schools and instructors stationed on the beach, ready to teach you!

Hotel wise, we booked on booking.com and initially stayed at The Roberts Collection, a boutique hotel made up of a collection of houses very close to the main street, with super cute verandas to sip your morning coffee! The rooms were perfect, clean and cosy!

We actually loved Nantucket Island so much that we extended our stay! Alas, our hotel didn’t have capacity for us to extend so we moved to the Union Street Inn. Again, New England style, clean and super cosy! This was a little further out, but everything is accessible by taxi.

Now, let’s talk about food!

Nantucket food game is SO strong! Our two favourites were The Proprietors and LoLa 41.

The Proprietors actually turned out to be around the corner from The Roberts Collection, which was pretty perfect! Serving innovative seasonal dishes, we were not disappointed AT ALL. We were actually blown away with every single dish.
Of course, we ordered family style so to be sure to get a taste of as many dishes as possible! I would give specific recommendations, but as it’s seasonal, I wouldn’t want to disappoint you! But let me assure you, anything you order you will NOT be disappointed!

LoLa41 is a hybrid of American fare and Japanese/sushi and again, you can’t go wrong! We went all in, family style with a selection of sushi rolls, sashimi, oysters and some truffle fries for good measure! The vibe there is perfect for evening cocktails or a glass of wine.Â

Now for something a little sweeter! The Juice Bar. Everyone kept telling us that we HAD to go to The Juice Bar, and every time we would pass it there was a queue around the block. Which led us to only one conclusion, this ice cream MUST be good!! And oh wow, did it not disappoint!
Homemade waffle cones, with all the flavours you could imagine. just go! Really!
I can’t sing its praises enough! Worth the line up!

Those are just a few of my recommendations! Surfing may not be the best at this time of the year (temperature wise), but if you’re heading out this summer – definitely put it on your list!!

Hopefully you found this post useful for your next trip to Nantucket Island!

Until next time!
