We’ve spoken before about what self love is, and how important it is. However, today, I wanted to touch on how to self love. How to cultivate it, to the point where it is your natural disposition. To the point where you don’t even have to think twice about it.
It’s such a buzzword at the moment and is taking over social media quotes and memes. But what does it look like outside of bubble baths and scented candles?
How To Self Love
Okay, so yes, part of self love really is taking those moments to do something a little nice and outside of your normal daily life, for yourself. But self love is so much more than that. It’s about creating boundaries that protect your energy so you aren’t pouring from an empty cup.
It’s about sometimes just saying no, and not trying to please people all the time. It’s understanding your learned behavioural patterns and adjusting them so you have more to give, but from a place where you’ve actually got the energy to give. Specifically, not giving from a place where you are relentlessly giving and caving under the pressure.
Sometimes self love means saying “no”, without an explanation, because it is a sentence in itself. It’s about prioritising your energy.
Some may take this as you being selfish with your time, and energy. However, it’s actually more like self preservation.
What do YOU need to do, for YOU to be able to show up as the best version of yourself?
Is that having a bubble bath and a glass of wine?
Having a Zoom catch up with friends?
Going on a walk?
Creating a spa at home?
Saying no when someone’s asking you to go out of your way, when you don’t have the time or the energy?
Meditating? Painting? Journalling?
Dancing around the house in the morning?
Crying when you need to cry?
Isolating yourself so you can only hear your voice for a while?
Whatever it is that YOU need, ask yourself. Wake up and ask yourself what do you need today to be able to give the best version of you to the world, and see what comes up.
If you don’t ask yourself the question, you will never know.
YOU know the answers.
They are all inside of you.
You just need to take the time to listen.
