Whilst we talk about being digital nomads a lot, and all the amazing benefits, we only rarely touch on the importance of community. Your digital nomad community. Having some sort of support network is so crucial. The work can be, by nature, somewhat isolating (unless you’re committing to the lifestyle with friends/families/partners). While this can also be seen as a benefit, having a tribe around you that gets EXACTLY what you’re going through is so so valuable.
When you’re off exploring all the places you’ve dreamed of, or even if you’re making the most of your free time and working at home, sometimes you can feel at a loss. Whether it’s uncertainty of how to proceed with what blog to create, advice on how to tweak your website or even travel tips for a city you’ve never been to.
The Basics
We are all human. Therefore, we all require connection.
In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, ‘belonging’ is one of our 5 basic needs as humans. Whether that be via romantic relationships, friends, workplace colleagues, etc. As humans, we NEED to belong. It’s just part of our DNA.
The Benefits
- Improving your social skills & confidence
- Becoming more present
- Advice!! – Like minded people that are likely to have experienced similar things can help you get through all sorts of situations
- Personal growth – You’ve got people there to push you to do things outside of your comfort zone, but with the purest goal of only doing so to help you!
- Less stress – they help you to get your mind off of, or even help you process, through any stress
- Meeting even more amazing people – the likelihood is that all the members of your tribe know even more amazing people, it’s never-ending!
These are just a very small handful of benefits. You could find plenty more even through a simple Google search.
However, you get the gist.
A tribe is important in all aspects of your life. With family and friends, etc. But, as we mentioned earlier having your tribe at work can make such a HUGE difference – especially as a digital nomad.
