No one has the exact key to happiness in life, however, I certainly believe it is possible for you to create an abundant lifestyle that brings you joy every day.
Time Freedom and How to Obtain it
In my experience building the life you desire really comes down to understanding what it is you value most and then making sure you have plenty of it!
The reality, for many however, is that they don’t always know what that is until they take a moment to REALLY REALLY think about it! After all, most people are too busy with day to day life and problems (often complaining) to take time to really think about what makes them happy.
An example in my own life is that I always assumed more money would make me instantly happier and enjoy life more. I am not saying I ever thought it would be as simple as money would make me happy, but I certainly thought having more money would make me a happier person.
But the truth is back in 2009, my first year I would say I had a lot of money – I was actually my unhappiest. Even though I had the flash cars and fancy holidays I knew something was missing! Yes, the day to day financial worries had gone which was great. But if I could measure how happy I was, say out of 10, I would say that it was a maximum of 3.
I would wake up in the morning, check how much money my business had made whilst I was sleeping, then usually drift around the rest of the day telling myself how lucky I was that I didn’t have a job and the fact I made money in my sleep… I had time freedom.
But here’s the thing – I was actually feeling pretty low most days and it was all because I wasn’t living a life focused on my core values. I basically had lost any real purpose in my life, I was blowing money on any material object I could think of and I was drifting from day to day trying to kid myself that I was the luckiest guy around…
Anyway, cutting a very long story short, one day, when I was sat on the sofa with by dog, Boss, two Porsches out the front and just after a big shopping spree I took a moment to think about my life and realised I was actually pretty unhappy. I was feeling unfulfilled, lonely and without a doubt ready for a new chapter!
The good news for me, is that this was the day I decided to take stock of the situation and go on a new quest to find real happiness and a life with more purpose and passion…
This was the day things started to change… In fact, this was the day that my life changed forever, because if I am honest, it was the first time I took some time out, to really think about what It was I valued most when it comes to living a wealthy happy life.
Now although I believe happiness is something we always aspire to have more of… After-all, I don’t think I have heard anyone complain of being too happy!
I do know, from my own experience that once you understand what it is that you truly value most, you can get to work on those things and the by-product of that is typically feeling happy and joy almost immediately.
In a nutshell, I believe you can live a happy life by changing your approach and attitude towards the type of lifestyle you want to lead and thus obtain time freedom. By maintaining a positive outlook about life that centres around understanding your values and purpose.
Here are some of my happy tips to achieve time freedom;
Living a Content Lifestyle
Something I have witnessed working with thousands of people from all backgrounds is that you can live a content lifestyle by simply knowing your comfort levels and seeking them out wholeheartedly. Engage regularly in activities that bring you happiness and fulfilment. To live your ideal lifestyle, you must be sure that your finances are in order (or be working toward this) and that you can afford to splurge regularly without the worry and stress of financial burdens.
Living within your means simply requires that you budget and manage your finances responsibly. You want to use credit wisely, save and invest, as well as not indulge in extra costly expenses that you really cannot afford. E.g. Don’t move into a house you can’t afford or drive a flash car. It will only add unnecessary pressure to your life. You can build wealth by investing properly and implementing an aggressive business plan that includes all the comforts of life that you want to enjoy now and later. The flash cars, homes and holidays can come later (if that’s what you want).
Plan for The Future
A good way to ensure wealth and happiness in your life right now is to plan for your future. If you prepare for your future, it will give you peace of mind and eliminate the need to worry about how you can continue to enjoy your lifestyle now and remain happy in the process.
In my experience one of the best ways to live happily is to do things that you enjoy in life daily. Many people spend time with family members and friends enjoying hobbies and other activities for fun. This can include taking regular weekend trips, going to the gym or other entertainment activities like such as having a regular meetup with friends. You can even have functions right in your own garden or house complete with music, good food, and people who bring you happiness and you enjoy being around. I typically chose only my close family and friends.
It can be said that in order to gain wealth, you have to build it. In other words, by focusing on how to establish a content life, you have to plan accordingly. To continuously increase your net worth and financial security you need to know what it takes to be wealthy. You will be secure in knowing that you are doing the right things to not only build wealth but maintain it as well. To build a wealthy and happy lifestyle, it is up to you. Whether you plan ahead and budget for enjoyable activities, or want to have the option to do what you want spontaneously, you have to be sure that the things you decide to do will continue to bring you joy and are based around your personal values (Not Mr & Mrs Jones’).
Don’t Focus on ‘Lack Of’
I used to have a small dose of this myself, but thank God I learnt at a young age how damaging and unattractive this is. What I am talking about here is always viewing life from the position of lack and deficit. If only I had more of this, if only I had more of that, there isn’t enough hours in the day blah blah BLAH!
When you focus on lack and scarcity and what you don’t have, you fuss about it with your family, you discuss it with your friends, you tell your children that you don’t have enough – “We don’t have enough for that, we can’t afford that” – then you’ll never be able to afford it, because you begin to attract more of what you don’t have. If you want abundance, if you want prosperity, then focus on abundance. Focus on prosperity.
Just think how you feel when you are around others that have nothing better to talk about than their ‘lack of’… Seriously how do you feel? I can guarantee it doesn’t bring anything positive to YOUR day…. So, make sure you aren’t the person doing this to others!
I can also guarantee that if you’re the person focusing on ‘lack of ‘- and even worse talking about it to others, that it will sink deep into your subconscious mind and two things will happen.
- You will not attract the type of people into your life that will bring happiness and success. In fact, because like attracts like you will just end up attracting people who are the same. More moaning whining people.
- You will feel WAY more stressed and unhappy as a result of it. Deep down in your belly you will know it’s not a natural state to be in and you will likely suffer from anxiety and/or depression. Not only that, if you’re married or in a relationship, likely hood is – you will also bring your partner into this same state.
The reality is many people in Western culture are striving for success. They want the great home, they want their business to work, they want all these outer things. But in my experience, I’d say that having these outer things does not necessarily guarantee what we really want, which is happiness. So, we go for these outer things thinking they’re going to bring us happiness, but it’s backward. You need to go for the inner joy, the inner peace, the inner vision first, and then all of the outer things appear.
